About Tuta
What is Tuta?
Tuta is an app for learning Georgian, made for English speakers. It starts with the alphabet and moves on to everyday words, short grammar lessons and short readings, each with a quick explanation first, and spaced-repetition reviews bring letters and words back just before you would forget them. It is named after the mulberry, tuta in Georgian, who is also its mascot.
Who is it for?
Complete beginners. You don't need to know a single letter: the first lessons teach the Georgian alphabet itself, and every lesson after that uses only what you've already learned.
Is Tuta free?
Yes. Tuta is free, with no ads.
What level does it cover?
The beginner level (CEFR A1): the Mkhedruli alphabet, then everyday words and phrases, short grammar lessons and short readings about life in Georgia.
How does it teach the alphabet?
A few letters at a time. Each letter is drawn for you stroke by stroke on its writing lines and you trace it with your finger; its card tells you how it sounds and gives a word that uses it, with audio. Right after each group of letters you read real words spelled with just those letters, such as დედა (mother) after the first five, and the letters come back in reviews until you know them for good.
Where can I use it?
In any web browser, on your phone or your computer: open Tuta and start the first lesson, no download needed. On Android it is also an app, in closed testing on Google Play: see how to get it.
